Reiki

A hands-on system of healing that has its roots in ancient methods.

Reiki can effect healing for problems of a physical, mental or emotional nature, and can greatly benefit the recipient.

In the late 1800's Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, and has been passed down, from Reiki. Master to Initiate since that time. In recent years the number of Reiki Practitioners has grown considerably. The story of how Reiki was rediscovered, and how it entered the Western World is available freely from a variety of sources including some of the sites that link from here.

Reiki means Universal Life Energy. This energy called Ki or Chi flows through the body and beyond. There are times when, for example if we are feeling low or unwell, the flow of Ki is inhibited. A Reiki Practitioner channels this energy and by placing their hands on or near the area of imbalance, they can help restore the natural flow of energy.

There are (generally) 3 degrees to Reiki Healing, for each degree the Reiki practitioner must be attuned by a Reiki Master. The first degree is mainly for personal healing, with the second degree the energy is increased and distance healing is possible. At the second degree, the practitioner is introduced to the use of the Reiki Symbols. The third degree is the Masters Degree, although this is
sometimes split into two sections for Practitioners and Teachers. Reiki may be given for a few seconds to a few hours, but generally a full Reiki treatment lasts between an Hour and an Hour and a half. Reiki can be used equally on people, animals, plants, places and some people even 'Reiki' their cars! Reiki is different things to different people.

There are many different 'forms' of Reiki around, each seems to be a variant of the others. The hand positions and symbols used may well vary, but Reiki (the energy) is still Reiki. Each system of Reiki healing is right for the person that does it, and I believe that the energy will do what it needs to do regardless of whether someone's system of using it differs from someone else's.
